PIZZA MOVIE NIGHT!!

FAVORITE SIMPLE PIZZA RECIPE

EVERY FRIDAY IS PIZZA MOVIE NIGHT AT OUR HOUSE. WHAT THAT MEANS IS A FRESH SOURDOUGH CRUST & WHATEVER IS LEFTOVER IN THE FRIDGE FROM THE WEEK. THIS IS SUCH A WONDERFUL TRADITION IN SO MANY WAYS- IT HELPS ME TO CLEAN OUT THE FRIDGE, HAVE ONE MEAL I DON'T HAVE TO PLAN & CREATE A FUN FRIDAY EVENING RITUAL WITH MY FAMILY.

Helps me to clean out the fridge & create a fun ritual!

Here's the basic sourdough recipe and sauce. As for the toppings, I recommend going through the fridge and using your leftovers as toppings! I usually start with by sauteing an onion first and then adding in anything that might be on its last leg in the fridge. Last night we had leftover mushrooms, squash from the garden and we didn't have cheese so I made a quick cashew cheese sauce (I'll post that recipe soon!). It was simple and delicious!

Sourdough Crust

Ingredients

  • 375 grams of warm water (approx. 110F)

  • 170 grams of barley malt

  • 100 grams sourdough starter

  • 12 grams of salt

  • 520 grams of pizza flour (can be subbed but 00 flour makes the best crust!)

  • Sprinkle of pizza seasoning

Directions

Directions should always be short and to the point.

  1. Add water and barley malt in a bowl and whisk together

  2. Add starter to the liquid ingredients, whisk together

  3. Next fold in the flour and salt until it forms a loose dough.

  4. Let sit for one hour covered.

  5. Knead dough for about one minute and cover again.

  6. Let rest for at least 4 hours before using

This recipe can be made the night before and kept wrapped in the refrigerator.

Simple Red Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 can of whole tomatoes

  • 4 dates

  • Tomato paste

  • 10 olives

  • Onion

  • Fresh garlic

  • Sprinkle of pizza seasoning & Salt & Pepper (I love using miso in replace of salt)

Directions

  1. Blend all of the ingredients together

  2. Simmer on stove on low for at least a couple hours

The longer you let this sauce simmer the better. I've added bell peppers and carrots before which worked well also!
